Ultrasonic thickness (UT):
Corrosion monitoring technique which provides a means of measuring the thickness
of the metal through ultrasound. Compression waves are used for internal pitting
and mid-wall effects. Shear waves (at an angle to the surface) are used for
welded joints and perpendicular cracks.

Utility Pig: A pig that
performs relatively simple mechanical functions, such as cleaning the pipeline.
